Marriage

Long time ago, arranged marriages were popular in Bhutan. Like people from the east they use to prefer cross-cousin marriages but now over the time people don’t encourage as they believe it to be orthodox culture marrying same blood. Many people nowadays prefer marrying as per their choice and wishes and finally gets arranged and marries.

Marriage ceremonies will be from simple to the grand one. Like some they like each other and ask consent from their parents and stay together and finally get court marriage certificate to make it legal. Some they marry as per the customs and traditions by consulting the astrologers about the date, time and day advised by the astrologer exchanging the silk scarf known as khadar sharing a cup of wine (Ara) which is more or less like Saki wine and throws a grand feast or party inviting huge number of people.
